Holiday Vehicle Road Trip Checklist

The holidays are upon us, and soon many of us will be piling up in our vehicles heading to family member’s homes or vacations spots to spend the holidays with friends and families. In order to make sure that your vehicle is road trip ready, make sure to go over the following holiday vehicle road trip checklist to ensure that your family is safe on the road!

Check Tires
Once of the most important items to check on your vehicle before a long road trip is your tires. Make sure that your tires air pressure is set properly and that your tires have good tread and grip. A bald tire can be dangerous, especially when driving in rain or snow. It is also good to have your tires balanced and aligned at your local auto repair shop if needed.

Change Oil
If your vehicle is due or nearing due for an oil change, be sure to have that taken care of before hitting the road. An oil change will protect you against an overheating engine or breakdown on the road. It will also help you receive the best possible fuel efficiency and performance from your vehicle.

Check the Weather Along your Route
Checking the weather along your route is extremely important. Knowing the weather conditions ahead of time will allow you to prepare accordingly. If it will be snowing, you will more than likely need chains for your tires.

Change Windshield Wipers
Working windshield wipers are vital when it comes to road trips in the winter. You never know when rain or snow can hit along your route, and faulty windshield wipers can greatly decrease your ability to see the road properly.

Check All Lights
This includes headlights, brights, brake lights, and blinkers. All of your vehicle’s lights need to be working to ensure your safety on the road.

Pack an Emergency Kit and Spare Tire
Just in case! You never know when an unexpected circumstance can occur, and being prepared will be necessary. Make sure you have a spare tire handy and all the tools necessary to change a tire, including a jack, lug wrench, wheel wedge, and a flashlight with extra batteries.

A little preparation for your road trip this holiday will make sure that you get to your destination safely to celebrate with loved ones.
